Climate change and adaptation is increasingly important to our members as they start to understand the impacts of climate change on their assets, business operations and governance.
This workshop will provide you with an opportunity to discuss and review where your organisation is with developing a plan to understand climate risk and how best to prepare for risks and associated impacts. The workshop will be of benefit to all network members. Whatever your size, scope of operations/activity and status with understating climate change and developing adaptation plans, this workshop will be of use to you. From organisations just starting off to those already delivering adaption activity there will be lots to share and collaborate on, from identifying collective challenges to learning from other approaches.
David Harkin Climate Change Scientist Historic Environment Scotland will start the workshop by providing an overview of their recently launched climate change adaptation plan “Climate Ready HES”. This ground-breaking plan is Historic Environment Scotland’s first climate change adaptation plan, dedicated to preparing for the risks and impacts associated with climate change.
David will provide an overview of:
· The Adaptation Plan: Including the key climate risks identified and adaptation response to these risks
· The Project Methodology and Results: Including insights on the methodology used to identify key climate risks. This research is intended to provide support to other organisations who may be looking to start their ‘climate ready’ journey.
Although a plan developed for Historic Environment Scotland, it is intended to be accessible by external organisations of all sizes and from numerous sectors and will be of interest to all Fit for the Future members who are or who will be developing a climate change and adaption plan.
After a group Q&A, the Fit for the Future team will lead you in smaller groups for you to share challenges, approaches, resources/tools used and lessons learnt in developing an organisational climate change and adaptation plan.
Outcomes from this workshop will be to inspire and support members (whatever your experience and knowledge) in developing and implementing a climate change and adaptation plan.
Throughout 2022 the Fit for the Future network will follow on from this workshop and continue to deliver support and collaboration opportunities in this increasingly urgent and significant area.
