Shaun McCarthy from Action Sustainability will be joining us for this session. Shaun is a recognised leader in the field of sustainable business. He was part of the UK Government sustainable procurement task force in 2005-06 which led the development of the BS 8903 standard in 2010 and led the UK delegation to develop ISO 20400 in 2013-17.

His presentation will cover the following:

·  Defining sustainable procurement
·  Using ISO 20400 as a strategic framework
·  Fundamentals, policy and strategy
·  Enablers, the organisational conditions you need to create
·  Procurement process, doing procurement differently
·  Case studies and best practice

Following this, general areas for discussion include (and are not limited to):

·       What does a good procurement policy look like?

·       How to introduce good procurement policies and practices?  How to develop and implement an impactful procurement strategy

·       How do we develop a strategy for dealing with procurement?

·       How do we prioritise areas and what sort of targets do we set?

·       Benchmarking – how is everyone else getting on?

·       How do we engage with/influence procurement teams?

·       How to engage suppliers in the process?

·       Assessing impacts and risks for various categories of spend (how to use data and finance systems to prioritise)

·       How does procurement feed into the challenge of achieving net zero?

·       A more in-depth look at a particular stream – such as plastic and packaging

·       How do we explore potential opportunities for the network to use its collective purchasing power for positive impact?

·       Industry guidance and standards e.g. ISO20400

·       External organisations that can support

·       Resources, guidance and case studies

Once you have registered, we will be in touch to identify any specific topics you would like the group to focus on.

Any member is welcome to attend, regardless of previous experience or knowledge on this topic.  The workshop will be of benefit to all network members, whatever your size and scope of operations/activity.  From organisations just starting off to those already delivering procurement policy and strategy there will be lots to share and collaborate on, from identifying collective challenges to learning from other approaches.
