With many organisations focusing on understanding and reducing a wide range of their environmental impacts, it is often difficult to co-ordinate policy, strategy and activity into an action plan. For example:
How do you co-ordinate decarbonisation in areas such as energy, travel, supply chains and waste?
Should, and how can, you set a net zero target for your organisation?
As well as reducing your impact (mitigation), how can you plan for the effect of climate change by adapting to build resilience into your organisation?
The Fit for Future network is continuing to focus on this key area. In 2023 we will deliver a range of events and signpost to guidance and resources to support members develop their sustainability strategies. In the second virtual event of the series, Ruth Knight (Head of Climate & Sustainability, English Heritage) will provide an overview of the recently published English Heritage Climate Action Plan (2022 – 2055) focusing in on strategy development and covering the challenges and opportunities of delivering against the core targets on people, decarbonisation, operations and resilience. This will be of significant interest and use to members, the plan being:
•Developed with staff and volunteer input from every department
•Evidence-based, prioritising actions that deliver impact
•A holistic management approach, not just a net zero strategy
•Creating meaningful and sustainable change, embedding climate informed decision making
•About not just responsibility but opportunity and business sense
Ruth has previously worked in sustainability strategy, policy and delivery at the Church of England and Greater London Authority. There will be an opportunity to ask Ruth questions and to join in a group discussion, allowing you to share learning, progress, challenges and questions with other members across the network who are on the same journey.
All members are welcome to attend, regardless of previous experience or knowledge on this topic. The session will be of benefit to all network members, whatever your size and scope of operations/activity. From organisations just starting off to those already delivering an action plan, there will be lots to share and collaborate on, from identifying collective challenges to learning from other approaches
