A foundational action plan covering the period 2023-2025, the UK Sport Environmental Sustainability Strategy marks the first step in ensuring that the next generation of champions — the Team of Tomorrow — continue to deliver more extraordinary sporting moments. The strategy includes a goal to have a net positive impact on the environment by 2040; this ambition builds on a goal of reducing the negative environmental impact of UK Sport’s own activities and operations, to achieve net zero by 2030. Sara will explain how UK Sport produced this strategy, including the development of support for the sports and major events in which they invest, and how the power and platform of sport can be used to inspire positive change.
Read the strategy and emissions reporting here.
The presentation will be of interest and use to organisations from all sectors looking to develop their sustainability ambitions and strategy, covering areas such as:
*Developing the strategy; who was engaged with?
*Calculating a baseline year for all emissions (carbon Footprint), including *Scope 3 (indirect emissions from value chain, upstream and downstream emissions from activities not directly controlled)
*Setting decarbonisation targets and pathway (a pathway to Net Zero)
*Decarbonisation actions (priority actions to be focused on)
The Fit for Future network is continuing to focus on this key area. In 2023 we will deliver a range of events and signpost to guidance and resources to support members develop their sustainability strategies.
There will be an opportunity to ask Sara questions and to join in a group discussion, allowing you to share learning, progress, challenges and questions with other members across the network who are on the same journey.
All members are welcome to attend, regardless of previous experience or knowledge on this topic. The session will be of benefit to all network members, whatever your size and scope of operations/activity. From organisations just starting off to those already delivering a strategy there will be lots to share and collaborate on, from identifying collective challenges to learning from other approaches.
