Many thanks to everyone who attended the Fit for the Future meeting and tour at Chester Zoo on the 20th May.  A huge thankyou to network member Chester Zoo for hosting the day.

Jennifer Kelly (Head of Sustainability at Chester Zoo) started the day with an overview of the organisation's sustainability policy, targets and action to deliver sustainability as a global conservation charity and the most visited, paid for attraction outside of London. We then opened up for general discussion and networking on key sustainability challenges and opportunities.  Many thanks to everyone for sharing questions, ambitions, challenges, approaches, resources, progress and lessons learnt.  These meetings provide a great opportunity to hear how the network can best continue to support you.  One outcome of this meeting being the development of a practical sustainable procurement policy workshop, where members can work together to compare and/or develop their polices.  Watch this space for more information.

Jen and colleagues then took members on site visits of Chester Zoo, including a visit to the Resource Recovery Centre to learn more about the zoo’s Zero Waste journey and other on-site sustainability initiatives (including heat pumps, PV panels, Electric Vehicles, local biodiversity habitats and range of public waste recycling initiatives including deposit return scheme vending machines).

The Fit for the Future team are developing more member meet ups and tours and would love to hear from you.  Where would you like to the member meet up to be located (we are keen to host throughout the UK)?  Would your organisation like to host a member meet up and/or tour?  What would you like the member meet ups to focus on?  Please do get in touch with the Fit for the Future team.
