On the 30th October we hosted our latest member’s virtual waste and circular economy discussion group.  Many thanks to everyone who came along and shared their questions, challenges, approaches, lessons learnt, progress and resources.  Our discussion groups provide a unique experience to network and share with other members in an informal setting.  The group focused on a range of waste issues including

  • Understanding (measuring and reporting on) the environmental impact of your waste.  How to improve your data.
  • Compliance and standards e.g. the new Simper Recycling regulations
  • How can you set ambitious and realistic targets?
  • How to develop and implement an impactful sustainable waste strategy and action plan
  • Bin signage for staff and/or visitors (how to communicate instructions and the reasons for waste separation “Ask about our recycling”)
  • Recycling specific items e.g. “bio” bags
  • Coffee cup schemes for visitors, including compostable cups and “bring your own cup” initiatives
  • When does food become waste?
  • What happens to our waste at the end of its life? How can we have more confidence in what we communicate to our stakeholders?  The Fit for the Future team to develop a member’s tour to support increasing our knowledge and confidence in this area.
